Hitch Sensor

Improve your performance on the track.

Compare

  • Compare vehicle pulling force from run to run. This is the best way to compare vehicle performance as track and sled conditions vary.

Understand

  • Understand how various set-ups (e.g. power, tire cuts, gear selection, hitch heights, weight balance, tire pressure, etc.) affect how hard your vehicle pulls.
  • Evaluate various driving techniques.

Record and Track

  • Record wheelie angle (pitch), one-wheeling, and pulling forces.
  • Empower your ability to optimize your existing equipment.

What is the Hitch Sensor?

The Hitch Sensor measures the forces on the drawbar and senses vehicle movement, then calculates and sends four streams of data to the vehicles data logger.

The information from the Hitch Sensor will help you improve on-track performance, and lower the cost of improvement.

Specifications

What are the four outputs and the benefit of each?

Horizontal Force data is a measurement of your vehicle’s effort to move the sled forward.  Factors like horsepower, tire cut, set-up, driving style, and track conditions are illustrated by this “bottom line” indicator.

Pitch (wheelie) data, coupled with hitch force information, will help you learn how various set-ups affect performance.

Vertical Force data provides insight regarding the “extra weight” applied to your rear tires as a result of the downward  portion of the force in the sled chain.

Roll data provides a record of “one-wheeling” which is often un-noticed but can dramatically reduce pulling force (and distance).

We will be happy to help you understand what conclusions you should make from your data, if you aren’t sure.

How does it work?

Will competitors know I have one?

Probably not.  The sensor systems aren’t very obvious, and most customers choose to keep their competitive advantage quiet.  We won’t tell who uses them either, but we will say you can’t be the first Points Champion from a National Association to use one!

How does it work?

The Hitch Sensor contains several proprietary sensors and high-speed microprocessors.  This system senses the necessary information, then provides real-time calculation of the four outputs it continuously sends to your data-logger.

Will it fit on my vehicle?

Yes.  You will send your drawbar to us for sensor installation and calibration.  Optionally, we can build a new drawbar for you.  We also offer engineering services to model, analyze and improve your hitch and hitch mounting.

Requirements and Compatibility

What are the data logger requirements?

The Hitch Sensor is compatible with any data logger.  Our hitches are used in vehicles with Corsa, Racepak, RPM, and Autometer data loggers.

The sensor system uses four 0—5 volt dc analog channels in your data logger.  If you don’t have a data logger or enough open channels on your existing unit, we will help you get the equipment you need.

Power Requirement:  The hitch sensor requires a 8—24 vdc power source and consumes only a few milli-amps.
